Twenty-four Walt Whitman High School were named National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists. The students are John An, Andrew Beers, Rebecca N. Curtis, Charlotte C. Dye, Colin F. Epperson, Elizabeth S. Feldstein, Jeffrey M. Gruen, August P. Holdrich, Will H. Holdrich, Kevin M. Hoogstraten, Mahima Iyengar, Joshua M. Lederman, Clara H. McCreery, Heather S. Menefee, Michael F. Neubauer, Stephanie E. Sansbury, Jonathan S. Schear, Adam M. Schefkind, Zachary A. Schloss, Ross M. Slaughter, Llewellyn S. Smith, Oren S. Steinberg, Nalini V. Tata and Marshall Thompson.
They are among approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who scored the highest on the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT. About 1.5 million students take the test each year.
Semi-Finalists can apply to become a finalist, in order to be considered for National Merit Scholarships. Approximately 8,400 scholarships will be offered between March and July, 2011.
