Local Father-Daughter Team Wins National Tennis Championship

Kent Watkins and Heather Walsh, both of Bethesda, Md., were invited to compete with 13 other father-daughter teams from 14 states in the USTA-sanctioned national super senior father-daughter clay court championships. 

It was held Nov. 8-11, at the Jupiter, Fl., Ocean and Racquet Club. 

Watkins and Walsh played four matches and received an award as the winner of the 2nd elimination flight. 

Watkins, formerly on the College of William & Mary team, is currently No. 1 in Md. for the 70s and 75s singles and No. 3 in the Mid-Atlantic. 

He was recently cited for being the oldest registrant in the U.S. Open Challenger playoff sectional at College Park. 

Walsh, a former State 35s singles champion, currently plays on a number of USTA and inter-club leagues in Md., including at Kenwood Country Club.
