- Student: Catalina Hernandez, Asha Harvey, Jasmin Miller
- School: Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
- Award: $100,000 Posse Scholarship
Fifteen Montgomery County Public Schools seniors, including three from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, have won full-tuition scholarships from the Posse Foundation for four years.
Catalina Hernandez plans on using the scholarship at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Recipient Asha Harvey plans to go to Bucknell University and Jasmin Miller plans on attending Pepperdine University.
According to a press release from MCPS, schools and community organizations nominated 1,662 students for the scholarships. There were only 62 winners and MCPS wrote their students accounted for nearly one quarter of all the winners.
Founded in 1989, the Posse program identifies "public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential" that may have been overlooked by traditional college selection processes, according to their website.
In 2010, MCPS had 10 Posse Scholarship winners from seven different high schools. This year, MCPS has 15 winners from 10 different high schools. Here’s the full list of this year’s MCPS recipients:
