10-Level Building Envisioned for Connecticut Avenue Lot

The vacant lot at Connecticut Avenue and Military Road eventually could see new construction, The Northwest Current reported.

The vacant lot on Connecticut Avenue at Military Road (in Chevy Chase, DC) may, one day, see some activity: Architects hired by the property owners have designed a 10-level building with 263 apartments for the site, The Northwest Current (Vol. 6, No. 48, pages 1 and 8) reported on Nov. 28.

"The glassy, angular building was designed by Eric Colbert & Associates, and would be developed by property owner Calvin Cafritz Enterprises and construction firm Foulger-Pratt, according to online documents. The project includes a circular driveway from Connecticut Avenue and access to a 173-space parking garage from an alley running between Military Road and Chevy Chase Parkway," The Current reported.

The Connecticut Avenue corridor in this block already is built up with large apartment buildings, so the 10-level plans may fit in with what is present. But, the site extends back further into the neighborhood of single-family homes than do other nearby apartment buildings, a local resident has pointed out, The Current reported.

"It is not clear when Cafritz would begin construction, but documents on the Foulger-Pratt website suggest the firm intends to seek building permits in the near future," The Current added.
