5 Things to Know Today: April 18, 2012

Add your photos of the space shuttle Discovery to Patch, and mark your calendar for Sunday's town hall meeting about the proposed Pepco rate hike.

Good morning, Chevy Chase! It's Wednesday, April 18, and here are five things to know today:

1.) Temperatures will be around 60 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain, according to the Capital Weather Gang. Perhaps the rain will help lower the tree pollen count, which was over 1600 grains per cubic meter yesterday, the Capital Weather Gang adds.

2.) Enjoy live storytelling at the Friendship Heights Village Center at 7 p.m. Storyteller Susanna "Granny Sue" Holstein, of Jackson County, WV, will tell tales with an Appalachian flavor.

3.) Did you get any photos of the spaceship Discovery yesterday when it flew over the Washington, DC, region? If so, consider adding them to the photo gallery.

4.) Mark your calendar today for this Sunday's town hall meeting about a proposed Pepco rate hike. The meeting will be hosted by the AARP at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center at 1 p.m. on April 22.

5.) Today in history: One hundred and six years ago (in 1906), an earthquake centered near San Francisco (and felt from southern Oregon to south of Los Angeles and inland as far as central Nevada), devastated the city, and led to the deaths of hundreds of people.
