5.) Today in history: Two hundred and twenty years ago (in 1792), President George Washington exercised the first presidential veto. "The bill introduced a new plan for dividing seats in the House of Representatives that would have increased the amount of seats for northern states," History.com reports. Washington exercised his veto power on only one other occasion during his presidency, History.com adds.
