5 Things to Know Today: June 20, 2012
Today: a heat advisory for the summer solstice.
Good morning, Chevy Chase! It's Wednesday, June 20, and here are five things to know today:
1.) Temperatures will be in the high 90s, with a 10 percent chance of rain, Weather.com reported. A heat advisory will be in effect from noon until to 8 p.m.
2.) This summer, Chevy Chase Patch is asking for your help in finding out the best burger, caterer, dry cleaner, summer camp, dessert menu, place to buy gourmet groceries, crab cakes and more (there are 25 categories in all). Click over to the landing page for the Readers' Choice series, then click on the links on the landing page to nominate your favorite businesses. Nominations close on July 9.
3.) Mark your calendars today for an intergenerational reading day tomorrow, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Chevy Chase Library Children ages 5 to 7 are invited to attend the event, pick out a favorite book and spend time reading with an adult volunteer from their community. Preregistration is required for the event and can be done online by going to http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Apps/Libraries/branchinfo/cc.asp and clicking on the "Programs and Events" link.

5.) Today in history: Thirty-three years ago (in 1979), President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter celebrated the installation of solar-energy panels on the roof of the White house. The celebration took place beside the panels. Read more on History.com.
