Bethesda, Medical Center Metro Stations To Close This Weekend

Free shuttle buses replace Metro trains between Friendship Heights and Shady Grove this weekend.

Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between the Friendship Heights and Grosvenor Metro stations from 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, through system closing on Sunday, Oct. 21.

The Bethesda and Medical Center Metro stations will be closed.

The weekend closures will "allow for rail renewal, fastener replacement, grout pad rehabilitation and leak mitigation," according to Metro's website.

Red Line trains will operate in two segments throughout the weekend: between Shady Grove and Grosvenor, and between Friendship Heights and Glenmont. The trains will run every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. At other times, trains will operate at regular weekend intervals, Metro reported on its website.

"Customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time," Metro added.

Last train information: On Friday and Saturday nights, the last Red Line train from Shady Grove to Grosvenor will leave at 1:58 a.m., 32 minutes earlier than normal, to allow for shuttle bus connections. On Sunday night, the last train will leave Shady Grove at 10:58 p.m., Metro reported.
