The summer solstice is the one day each year with the longest amount of daylight, and it’s coming up on Wednesday, June 20. You may want to take advantage of those extra sunny hours with a trip to the beach, a backyard barbecue or one of these Maryland summer solstice celebrations.

Experience the solstice at the Maryland Science Center on Saturday, June 23, from 8 p.m. to midnight. This annual fundraiser benefits the education and outreach programs of the science center and includes live music, food and cocktails. Purchase tickets online for $125. 

Take a hike through the Hereford Wildlands at Gunpowder Falls State Park in Baltimore County. This is a 3-mile guided hike from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20. There is no charge; just call 410-592-2897 to pre-register.
