Chevy Chase Native Is Pitcher of the Week

Chevy Chase native Henry Sisson, a left-handed pitcher for Davidson College's baseball team, was named the Louisville Slugger's National Pitcher of the Week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper for his no-hitter Friday night, April 13, against Wofford College.

The recognition means that Sisson's pitching last Friday was "the top pitching performance in the nation for the week," according to a Davidson College press release.

The freshman pitcher, who graduated from St. Albans School, threw the sixth no-hitter in Davidson College history (and the first at the college since 2001), as the Davidson Wildcats shut out Wofford, 1-0, according to the press release.

"The milestone came in ... Sisson's fifth career start as he upped his record to 2-1. ... [Sisson] allowed four base runners on three walks and an error and matched his career high of nine strikeouts," the press release continued.

"Sisson is the first Wildcat to win a national player of the week honor from Collegiate Baseball since 2009," the press release added.

Davidson College will play Duke University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Great pitching duel tonight between two left-handers (Gonsalez and Rodriguez) in Nats-Astros game...and now great news on another lefty. I follow local baseball fairly closely but completely missed this guy. Good story!
