Chop't Coming To Wildwood Shopping Center
Will the salad chain fare better than the short-lived Mixt Greens?
There will soon be a new, healthy option for folks looking for lunch in the Wildwood Shopping Center.
Chop't, the popular salad chain, has leased the space at 10307 Old Georgetown Road in the shopping plaza. The deal was finalized Monday, said Ralph Ours, a leasing agent for Federal Realty, which manages Wildwood.
Following the closure of the short-lived Mixt Greens, Wildwood has been without an eatery that specializes in salads.
The chain has locations in New York and Washington, DC, according to its website. Customers can choose or customize salads or "salad sandwiches," salads wrapped in flat bread. Options include twists on classic cobb, greek and ceasar salads along with a few more unique offerings, like the "Grilled Asian" and "Palm Beach Shrimp" salads.
Diners can also choose from a seasonal menu, which features salads made with local ingredients. Those offerings shift every 60 days.
Ours couldn't say when the new eatery would open, deferring questions to Federal Realty senior marketing manager Vanessa Lopez-Isa.
Lopez-Isa couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
A timeline would depend on the chain's construction schedule, Ours said.
Will you check out Chop't? Do you think the salad chain will fare better than Mixt Greens in Wildwood? Tell us in the comments.

Tweet from Chop't last week reported the following: Pending construction, we hope to open in Wildwood Center in Oct. We're excited to join the community in Bethesda!

Erin- this was reported on April 27th in Bethesda Magazine. So how could the lease have just been signed this week? 4 months ago this was news. Come on! http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Blogs/Table-Talk/March-April-2012/Small-Bites-News-about-openings-and-a-closing/

Joe, in this industry the real estate folks will leak out info before a final lease is signed hoping that it will help bring in other tenants or make themselves look good in the marketplace. As Erin said the deal was finalized on monday and in this biz until something is final it can go away any day, which happens all of the time, so before you jump on someone, know the facts.as you may have read from the comment, Chop't tweeted their first official info on the new location last week, not back in April. Thanks Erin for waiting for the official word before reporting what may be.

Kenny F- your missing the point. Leaked information is called news and that's what was reported months ago. Once it's out there it's there. But thanks for the lesson.

Joe: "Kenny F- your missing the point."
Joe, you said "So how could the lease have just been signed this week?" You made that point.
Kenny then related that the process before signing a lease takes awhile, addressing your point.
So no, he didn't miss your point at all.

That space hasn't fared well in the past. Needs lots of walk-in traffic. We'll see how they do....

I pray it does well! I go to the Chop't DC locations and I can eat there almost every day. I'm not one for 'rabbit food' as one of the previous commenters stated, but Chop't is so fresh and offers such a variety. I really hope that this works out and people really patronize it because it's a great place and it would be so convenient when I'm at the shopping center. PLEASE SUPPORT CHOP'T!!!!

What I'd like to understand (and was inexplicably omitted from the article) is why Chop't should have a different outcome from Mixt when they are both, as far the article says, the same type of restaurant. Also bear in mind that, in the same strip, is Balducci's which has a salad bar and eating area. While I can accept that Balducci's salads may not have the sophistication of a specialty restaurant, Balducci's variety of other food (non-salads) means that if I go out with friends for lunch and not everyone wants a sald, then Balducci's has the advantage. I have no idea if this hypothesis accounts for Mixt's demise but surely someone must be thinking about these things. Can't the article do a little better than my lightweight speculation and actually ask the owners what the they're thinking?
