If you don't want to start - or end - your Memorial Day weekend festivities with a ticket, then you better buckle up.
Police across Maryland will be strictly enforcing seatbelt laws over the Memorial Day weekend.
"We will be looking for you and your passengers who aren’t buckling up properly and we will issue tickets to anyone not in compliance," according to a news release by the Maryland National-Capital Park Police.
The Park Police will be focusing on nighttime enforcement on Beach Drive, Sligo Creek Parkway and Little Falls Parkway, during the holiday weekend, police said.
"Statistics show nighttime drivers are less likely to buckle up compared to daytime drivers," police said.
Nationally, more than 10,000 passenger occupants were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes at night in 2010. Of those killed, 61 percent were not wearing seat belts, according to police.
