Finalists Announced In Bethesda Painting Awards

Eight Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. painters have been selected as finalists in the juried art competition.

 

Out of 300 artists who submitted their work, eight have been chosen as finalists in the Bethesda Painting Awards.

The juried art competition was established in 2005 by Bethesda philanthropist and community activist Carol Trawick to honor painters in the Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia region.

The finalists are:

Competition winners will be announced June 6, but you can check out the work of the finalists at Gallery B from June 1 -20. Or, stop by Gallery B for the opening reception from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, June 9. The reception will be held in conjunction with Bethesda Art Walk.

A Best in Show winner will be awarded $10,000, a second place winner will win $2,000 and a third place winner will be honored with $1,000. An additional $1,000 may also be awarded to a young artist.

This year’s entries were juried by Walter Bartman, director and founder of the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery at Glen Echo Park; Maria Karametou, artist and assistant professor at George Mason University; and William Woodward, professor emeritus of fine art at George Washington University.
