Former Whitman HS Principal Dies
Jerry Marco passed away last Wednesday, according to NBC.
During his tenure at MCPS, Marco also worked as a math teacher, counselor and assistant principal before becoming principal of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School at 34, according to NBC Washington. While at Whitman, he emphasized the arts and founded the Connections program, geared to support students with emotional, behavioral, and social issues.
Marco passed away May 9, NBC Washington reported.
"For 29 years, Dr. Marco served as the principal of Walt Whitman High School and was integral to building its reputation as one of the nation's best high schools," read a statement MCPS released to NBC Washington. "Dr. Marco was greatly admired by staff, parents and students and always made decisions that were in the best interests of his students. The Whitman community will host a service honoring Dr. Marco's legacy in the near future."
