Franchot Wants Marylanders To Get Offline; Shop Local
Comptroller kicked off 'Shop Maryland for the Holidays' campaign by patronizing downtown Bethesda businesses Wednesday.

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot kicked off his “Shop Maryland for the Holidays” tour in Bethesda Wednesday, encouraging Marylanders to get off the Internet and shop local for the holidays.
“There is something to be said for the personal interactions with other shoppers and store employees at the holidays. It’s warm and inviting, unlike a cold, unfeeling computer,” Franchot said in a statement. “Plus when you shop in state and support your community businesses, you are bound to find great deals and help the more than 500,000 Marylanders employed in our state’s retail sector. And really, isn’t the spirit of the holidays all about helping others and kindness?”
Franchot spoke in Veteran’s Park with Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce president Ginanne Italiano and Bethesda Urban Partnership director Dave Dabney before stopping in to shop for the holidays at downtown Bethesda businesses.

I'm sorry, why not also advertise how to shop online at Maryland stores?
If I can buy the same item from a local retailer than I'll be happy to, but they should have an online presence to make it as easy. It's not like it costs a lot to run a website.

Right, the government should sponsor or work with Maryland business associations to get people to turn to local stores online instead of Amazon.

I shop where ever I can get the best value for my dollar. It is rarely anywhere in Martyland. Free shipping and no sales tax is key. Want to INCREASE product sales and help business and the economy? Make all on line purchases tax free no matter where the point of purchase is. Good for not only the economy but for the environment.
