There's lots of ways to enjoy the weekend without breaking the bank.
There's lots to do in and around Bethesda this weekend, and did we mention much of it's free? Kick off fall right with some great activities! Our picks:
1. Rockville Town Square Friday Night Concerts
Where/When: 6-9p.m. Friday in Rockville Town Square, East Middle Lane and Maryland Ave. in Rockville
Why Go: Enjoy live music every Friday evening in September in Rockville Town Square, along with food and drink specials at neighboring restaurants. This weekend, Donegal Xpress will play Irish-American roots rock.

2. Emerging Writer Fellowship Celebration And Reading
Where/When: 7:30p.m. Friday at the Writer’s Center
Why Go: Emerging writer fellows Ellis Avery, author of The Teahouse Fire, Chris Goodrich, author of Nevertheless Hello, and Angela Woodward, author of End of the Fire Cult, will read from their work. The reading will be followed by a gathering at Food, Wine & Co. Also at the Writer’s Center this weekend, you can check out a free improv performance at 8p.m. Saturday.

3. Kid’s Day At Bethesda’s FRESHFARM market
Where/When: 9a.m. – 1p.m. Saturday along Norfolk Avenue near Fairmont Avenue
Why Go: Special activities for kids at this weekend’s FRESHFARM market will include “build-a-bug,” a scavenger hunt, coloring, live music and a kid-friendly chef demo. The Susan G. Komen walkers are also set to pass through the market on their three-day route around the nation’s capital in support of breast cancer research, so stop by to cheer them on!

Where/When: 6p.m. Saturday at Great Falls Tavern, 11710 MacArthur Boulevard, Potomac
Why Go: This event will benefit the C&O Canal Trust and its programs, including Canal Quarters and Canal Discoveries, and will feature live music, seasonal foods, desserts from Firehook Bakery, campfires and more.
Pricing: $150 ($115 is tax-deductible)
5. Screening of “Poetry” With Cinema Art Bethesda
Where/When: 10a.m. Sunday at the Landmark Bethesda Row Cinema
Why Go: View a screening of this acclaimed Korean film and stick around for a discussion afterwards. The screening is the first in a series at Landmark, held through May, hosted by Cinema Art Bethesda.
Pricing: Subscribe to the series for $125 for 10 tickets or $110 for eight tickets, or buy a single ticket for $15.
6. Then and Wow! At Glen Echo Park
Where/When: 11a.m. Sunday at Glen Echo Park, 7300 Macarthur Boulevard in Glen Echo
Why Go: This annual festival is a celebration of Glen Echo Park’s past and present. Learn about the park and its many programs, enjoy demonstrations, music and roving performers, and take a ride on the historic Dentzel carousel before it closes for the season.
