Get Out: Ideas for the Weekend

Where/When: Downtown Bethesda art galleries. Friday, May 11, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Why Go: It's the second Friday of the month, so that means downtown Bethesda art galleries will keep their doors open late to showcase great local, regional and national artwork. Participating venues include Artworks (7740 Old Georgetown Rd.), California Tortilla (4862 Cordell Ave.), Gallery B (7700 Wisconsin Ave., Suite E), L'Eclat de Verre (7015 Wisconsin Ave.), Upstairs Art Studios (4948 St. Elmo Ave.) and the Waverly Street Gallery (4600 East-West Highway).
Price: Free.
Where/When: International Spy Museum (600 F St. NW, Washington, DC). Friday, May 11, from 6 to 11 p.m.
Why Go: Visit the International Spy Museum for the "Spy at Night" experience, which provides visitors with exclusive, after-hours access to the museum's permanent collection and an evening full of intrigue, deception and cocktails (including a complimentary drink).
On May 11, "Spy at Night" will take on a "Moscow Nights" theme, with special guest retired KGB Major General Oleg Kalugin, a KGB-themed scavenger hunt through the permanent exhibit, a Russian dance performance and the special complementary cocktail, "From Russia With Love."
Price: General admission: $19.95. Operation Spy at Night: $14.95. Combination General Admission and Operation Spy at Night: $27.95.
Where/When: Veterans Park (Norfolk and Woodmont avenues, Bethesda, MD). Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: This two-day event highlights nearly 140 contemporary artists who will sell their original fine arts and crafts. Participating artists were selected and juried by members of the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District. Live entertainment and children's activities will also be featured.
Price: Free to enter the festival.
The Shazam Magic Show Starring Magician Peter Wood
Where/When: Chevy Chase Library (8005 Connecticut Ave., Chevy Chase, MD). Saturday, May 12, at 5 p.m.
Why Go: This magic show is sure to make skeptics think twice and kids-at-heart become younger. Peter Wood will perform amazing mind-reading acts, baffling card tricks and impossible sleights-of-hand. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County.
Price: Free.
