Haunted House, Dancing, Mystery and More in Montgomery County This Weekend

Events happening around Montgomery County this weekend.

 

Taste of Friendship Heights 2012

Where: Friendship Heights Village Center, 4433 S. Park Ave., Chevy Chase, MD.

When: Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at noon.

Why go: Experience great food, music, family fun and much more at the 6th annual Taste of Friendship Heights.

 

Urban Haunted House Opens

Where: 11840 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD.

When: Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, 7 p.m.

Why go: Experience the area’s first fully indoor haunted house. Based on “Project 4.1,” which was a governmental project to study the effects of nuclear fallout, this haunted house will feature zombies, decaying bodies, vicious military men and many more scares.

Price: $30 per person.

 

Footloose Friday at Avant Garde

Where: Avant Garde Ballroom Dance Center, 5268 Nicholson Ln., Ste. M, Kensington, MD.

When: Sept. 28, 2012, 8 p.m.

Why go: Get your dance on at the social event. Start out with some cha-cha lessons at 8 p.m., then go “footloose” until 10:30 p.m.

Price: $15 per person ($12 for students with identification). Admission includes class.

 

Carnival of the Animals

Where: Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD.

When: Sept. 28, 2012, 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m

Why go: Catch Bob Brown’s Puppets' first-ever bilingual puppet show, which focuses on a young boy’s stuffed animals that magically come to life when Carnival of the Animals plays on his radio.  

Price: $10.

 

Grown and Sexy Friday at the Nectar Lounge

Where: 7926 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD.

When: Friday, Sept 28, 9 p.m.

Why go: Sit back, unwind and enjoy jazz music.

Price: $10.

 

Do or Die Mystery Dinner

Where: Flanagan's Harp and Fiddle, 4844 Cordell Ave., Bethesda, MD.

When: Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, 10 a.m.

Why go: Enjoy Drop Dead, Gorgeous!—a dinner mystery where old supermodels don't fade away, but do sometimes get rubbed out.

Price: $47.50.

 

Teen Sk8

Where: Wheaton Ice Arena, 11717 Orebaugh Ave., Wheaton, MD.

When: Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, 8 p.m.

Why go: Every Friday night, it's Teen Sk8 at Wheaton Ice Arena. Follow the rules for each week's theme and get admission for a discounted rate. Please see the website for each week's theme.

Greencastle Elementary School PTA Fun Fair

Where: 13611 Robey Rd., Silver Spring, MD.

When: Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, 10 a.m.

Why go: Arts and crafts, moon bounce, dunk tank, martial arts, mascot appearances and much more at this family-friendly event.  

Price: $10 for an unlimited entertainment bracelet.

 

Rachel Harrington at the Gaithersburg Art Barn

Where: Gaithersburg Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Rd., Gaithersburg, MD.

When: Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, 7:30 p.m.

Why go: Singer-songwriter Rachel Harrington—described as Loretta Lynn playing Otis Redding songs in a garage in Seattle in 1963—will host a workshop and then perform at the Art Barn.

Price: Workshop and concert together are $45 ($43 for residents). Concert only is $25 ($23 for residents).
