Metrorail News: Memorial Day Weekend Edition
It's no holiday for weekend track work.
Expect some delays on the Red Line this weekend.
Red Line trains will operate every 10 minutes between the Shady Grove and New York Avenue stations, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, according to Metro's website.
At all other operating times, trains will run every 20 minutes between these stations. Between New York Avenue and Glenmont, trains will run every 20 minutes during all operating times this holiday weekend.
The delays will be due to single-tracking between the Forest Glen and Takoma Park Metro stations to allow for the installation of fiber optic cables and the reconstruction of platforms.
On the Green Line, free shuttle buses will replace trains between the Greenbelt and Fort Totten stations between 10 p.m. on Friday through closing on Monday. The Greenbelt, College Park, Prince George's Plaza and West Hyattsville stations will remain closed during the weekend.
On Memorial Day, Metro will operate service on the following schedules:
- Metrorail: The system will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking is free at all Metrorail parking facilities.
- Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- MetroAccess: All subscription trips will be cancelled on Monday. Customers wishing to travel on the holiday should make a separate reservation.
Also, Metro's customer information line, lost and found and customer relations call centers will be closed on the holiday.
And, Ride On Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day.
