Mid-December Opening Likely for Range

Celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's latest restaurant—once slated to open in mid-September—likely will open in a few weeks at the Chevy Chase Pavilion.

Good news for fans of celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio: His much-anticipated new restaurant Range could be opening in just a few weeks in Friendship Heights, The Washington Post reported.

While the restaurant's opening date is not yet set, patrons may reserve a spot for a "pop-in preview" on Dec. 15, 16 or 17, The Post reported. (Make reservations via the restaurant's website.)

The restaurant once was scheduled to open in mid-September, but that date was pushed back to mid-November, Voltaggio’s publicist Melissa McCart told Bethesda Magazine in August. Now, it's likely to open in mid-December.

At Range, the focus will be on meat. Voltaggio plans to offer many small portions of various meat dishes, encouraging diners to try more than one type or cut of meat at a meal, Voltaggio told The Post.

Range is perhaps the most anticipated business to open in the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion, which is undergoing a $32-million makeover. Other businesses slated to open in the upscale Friendship Heights shopping center (located at Wisconsin and Western avenues, Washington, DC) include H&M and cigar lounge Civil Lounge, for which Range chefs will provide "small plate" menu items.

A typical Range diner's check will total $50 to $60, Voltaggio told The Post.

According to Bethesda Magazine, the nearly 275-seat restaurant—a $10-million project with an open kitchen, wine store, coffee and raw bars, bakery and giant rotisserie ovens—required almost a year's worth of negotiations between Voltaggio and Clairon Partners, the property manager of the shopping center at the time of the negotiations. Voltaggio signed the lease last February for the restaurant's second-floor location, formerly occupied by Stein Mart.
