Montgomery County 1st District Officers Host Community Forum
MCPD will be on hand to answer questions about the future 1st District station move from Rockville to Gaithersburg.
Montgomery County police from the 1st District today will host a community forum answering questions about the station’s move to the new Public Safety Headquarters in Gaithersburg.
First District officers covering the Rockville and Potomac areas will be on hand from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Ivymount School in Potomac for a panel discussion about the move, which will join the 1st District station with the larger Montgomery County Police Department headquarters in Gaithersburg. The 1st District is located on Seven Locks Road in Rockville, and was scheduled to move to the Gaithersburg location this summer. The move has been pushed to early 2013, according to 1st District Commander James Fenner.
In addition to the 1st District Station, the $108.5 million Public Safety Headquarters project brings Montgomery County Police Headquarters, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, the office of Homeland Security and parts of the transportation department under one 408,000 square-foot roof.
The move will station the 1st District headquarters about six miles northwest of its previous location to fall within MCPS 6th District boundaries, but police say coverage in the 1st District should remain consistent.
Editor's Note: This article was corrected. In an original post, we said the police station had already moved, but it's moving in 2013. Police had originally scheduled the move for this summer. We regret this error.
What will you ask Montgomery County police at tonight’s panel? Tell us in the comments.
