Patch Asks: What Stores Should Open on Wisconsin Circle?
What stores would you like to see move into the empty storefronts on Wisconsin Circle?
Let's call this a modern spin on community planning—Patch's version of a charette, a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.
In this column, we'll present vacant buildings or lots, and ask you to tell us what you think would be their best use. Forget what zone they're in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other sleep-inducing zoning jargon. If you had your way, what would you like to see in these spots? What would be their best use for the community?
This week, we look at the empty Friendship Heights storefronts along Wisconsin Circle—a silvery crescent of window glass punctuated by only a few stores, including Potomac Pizza, Luxoptics and Frosting, A Cupcakery.
Between the existing stores are storefronts covered with white paper. What do you think should go there? Tell us in the comments.

A nail salon. Why there so many in downtown Bethesda (both sides) and not a single one here (excluding the ones in salons like Hela, Reddoor, and Saks)?

Good question, Rachel! I never noticed that before.

More great ideas! With Gifford's gone, the circle could use a new ice cream parlor. And, I love flower shops - a flower shop would bring a nice spot of color to the storefronts!

Other ideas include a bakery like Marvelous Market, a dry cleaners, or a book store to replace the loss of Borders.

I totally agree - a good book store is so necessary here. If there was a book store, it would fill in a huge gap in the shopping offerings of Friendship Heights. I never thought about the lack of dry cleaners before...!
