More than 550 Walter Johnson High School seniors received their diplomas in a Thursday evening ceremony at the DAR Constitution Hall.

The class is marked by their unity, individuality, and philanthropy, speakers said. Walter Johnson was once again this year's top fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients program. The class received more than 1,750 offers of college admission, more than $26 million in offers of scholarship funding, and will attend 160 college campuses around the world, said Principal Jennifer Baker at the ceremony.

MCPS community superintendent and former beloved Walter Johnson principal Christopher Garran took the stage to address the students as the evening's graduation speaker, highlighting the importance of taking risks.

"I miss you more than you can know," Garran told the graduates. "I'm exceptionally proud of you and proud of where you will go."
