Plans Detailed For New Bethesda Row Wine Bar
Vino Volo will land on Woodmont Avenue this fall.
Details emerged this week about a new wine bar set to debut on Bethesda Row’s Woodmont Avenue this fall.
Vino Volo, a wine bar chain based in airports across the country, will mark its first stand-alone store in an urban area with the Bethesda location, the company announced Tuesday.
“Many of our customers have been asking us to open in urban locations so they can enjoy the Vino Volo experience without a boarding pass,” company founder and CEO Doug Tomlinson told The Washington Post.
News of Vino Volo’s landing on Bethesda Row was first reported by Bethesda Magazine's Table Talk blog.
Like at the chain’s airport locations, Vino Volo’s Bethesda lounge will offer three different wines, according to the Post. The Bethesda spot will combine a “cozy wine lounge, restaurant and boutique wine shop,” complete with a full food menu to pair with wine and an “invitation-only VIP table for guests.”
Trained wine associates also will be on hand to pour and share their wine knowledge, the company said.
“Vino Volo means ‘wine flight’ in Italian, and we have made wine tasting fun and interactive by putting together tasting flights that allow guests to discover which wines they enjoy most, in a way you can’t do if you’re just buying wine by the glass,” Tomlinson told The Post.

Too bad the County cares more about therevenue from sales taxes than the quality of life in Bethesda. Given the number of drinking establishments in the central area, the better name for the city should be Ocean City West. Wonder if the police are up to what is bound to come next.

It's a wine bar not a dive bar. It's not an economical place to get tanked which is the entire point of ocean city culture - you'd go to black finn or saphire for that. This is going to compete with places like Assaggi, Jaleo, the Osteria, and Mussel bar.

LOL, yep, Ocean City and its wine bars. Calling all police officers, there's a business meeting getting out of hand!

I don't see how any wine bar on it's own can survive in montgomery county with it's tightly regulated alcohol laws--the choices are so much greater outside montgomery county!
