Readers' Choice: Clyde's of Chevy Chase

Readers voted for Clyde's of Chevy Chase as the best place to take mom for Mother's Day brunch.

Readers voted overwhelmingly for Clyde's of Chevy Chase as the preferred place to take mom for Mother's Day brunch.

In Patch's recent poll of brunch spots in the Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac areas, Clyde's of Chevy Chase won 54 percent of the vote. In second place was Old Angler's Inn, in Potomac, with 10 percent of the vote.

Mother's Day brunch is the busiest brunch of the year at Clyde's, said Tony Moynagh, the restaurant's general manager.

"It'll be several times busier than normal," he said.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 people are expected to have brunch or dinner at the Friendship Heights restaurant on Sunday, May 13, Moynagh added.

There won't be a special menu for Mother's Day brunch, although the brunch menu does change slightly from one weekend to the next. However, perennial brunch favorites like French toast, pancakes and huevos rancheros will be on the menu, as well as burgers, salads, sandwiches, and the seasonal special—the fried soft shell crab.

From the drink menu, special cocktails include pomegranate mimosas, strawberry basil lemonade, and a cherry blossom breeze.

Kids' menu items include favorites like the Clyde's burger, hot dogs, cheese pizza and fish and chips.

Many of Sunday's diners have made reservations, although it will still be possible for patrons without reservations to dine at Clyde's on Mother's Day—there just might be a long wait, Moynagh said.

Clyde's will validate up to two hours of free parking in the adjacent underground garage of the Chevy Chase Center.
