Roche Bobois Holds Big Warehouse Sale at Former Borders Spot
The upscale Parisian store in Friendship Heights is offering quality furniture at bargain prices.
Roche Bobois, the high-end Parisian furniture store, is running a major warehouse sale at the former Borders Books location on Wisconsin Avenue NW in Friendship Heights.
The sale started last week and is expected to run well into January. Roche Bobois, whose main store is on the same block at 5301 Wisconsin Ave., is leasing the Borders spot on a temporary basis for two months, as Patch reported earlier this month.
On a rainy afternoon this past week, the store was empty and a company official acknowledged that “business could be better.”
James Antoine Thanh, an interior designer and a store manager, said that Roche Bobois “is a very high-end” outfit.
“We are probably the only high-end furniture store left in this area,” noting that other upscale stores in Bethesda and elsewhere had gone out of business.
As a result, Thanh expects sales to pick up in the weeks before Christmas. Pointing to the sofas, beds, chairs and and other items, he said “it’s all the furniture we’ve been selling at our (main) store” down the street.
Roche Bobois is also bringing in furniture from other locations in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and here in Washington, DC, he added.
“Basically, we are offering quality furniture, reduced prices and immediate delivery,” Thanh said.
The European Designs website asserts that Roche Bobois envisions and creates furniture that “expresses a certain way of celebrating” interior design.
“Designs are luxurious, yet comfortable. Modern, yet timeless,” European Design says. “There is a strong sense of parted-down elegance that is tastefully carried out with each and every piece.”
It’s worth stopping by and taking a look for yourself. The new warehouse location is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
