Senators Cardin and Mikulski, Congressman Van Hollen Present $40 Million Check for NIH Walter Reed Pedestrian Tunnel

Grant is part of $89 million Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) project.

Sens. Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski, alongside Rep. Chris Van Hollen, on Monday presented officials with a $40 million check for the construction of a new pedestrian tunnel between NIH and Walter Reed.

Part of a total of $89 million in grants to both Montgomery County and the State of Maryland for military base realignment (BRAC) related projects, Montgomery County Director of Transportation Art Holmes and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s General Manager Rich Sarles accepted the ceremonial check on behalf of the project.

According to the Congressional press release, the BRAC relocation project could bring as many as 60,000 new jobs to Maryland. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, part of the overall BRAC, is expected to bring up to 2,500 new employees to Bethesda.

Additional upcoming construction projects at Walter Reed may affect local commute times.

Why are the "presenters" of the check important enough to be included in this headline? Their names would have been more appropriately mentioned within your following report. The headline should have been more in the order of:

$40 Million of the $89 Million Grant for BRAC Projects Goes To Construction of Pedestrian Tunnel Between NIH and Walter Reed.

Couldn't have anything to do with this being an election year, could it?

This is not outrage about money, it's a comment about why the politicians names are part of the headline when they had nothing to do with it. Seems like campaigning to me.
