SPEAK OUT: Are You Out Of Power?

Pepco reporting several Bethesda power outages.

Following the severe thunderstorms that swept through Montgomery County Wednesday afternoon, Pepco is reporting several outages in Bethesda zip codes.

Sixty-three outages were reported in 20817, eight in 20814 and less than five in 20816, 20818 and 20812. However, more outages appeared to be affecting at least the 20816 zip code, with portions of the Sangamore neighborhood and all of the Shoppes at Sumner Place shopping plaza in the dark.

Power outages can be reported to Pepco by calling 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662).

I have lived in Bethesda, on Oak Place for nearly 30 years and we are regularly suffering power outages. Any and every thing will should off power on our street, in the Oakmont Tax District. Every time there is a hard rains, high winds, lightning, or a sleet or snow storm, the power on Oak Place goes off while paralleling streets, on both sides, have power. It pains us to be the only street that is treated differently. We have complained for nearly 30 years but nothing has been done. Pepco told us in 1985 that the primary reason we always lose power is because the electric lines on our street was not properly connected. It this is true, why hasn't this problem being corrected over the last 30 years, since when lose power in the summer we lose all of our food. In the winter, we nearly freeze to death and in the Spring our basements flood, the sump pumps can't pump out the water, and we lose value items that are stored in the basements. When will Pepco give us the electric service that we pay for? Neighboring homes get service year around. Why can't we have it? Should we withhold paying county property taxes? Or paying our Pepco Bills? We need help!!!
