State Highway To Update BRAC Committee on Intersection Improvements
Four intersection improvement projects around soon-to-be Walter Reed National Military Medical Center geared to ease BRAC traffic.
Maryland State Highway Administration officials will give an update Tuesday evening on the status of intersection improvement projects near the soon-to-be Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
The intersection improvements are geared to help ease expected traffic congestion when the Walter Reed Army Medical Center completes its transition with the National Naval Medical Center Sept. 15. The move is a part of the federally mandated Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.
The intersection projects include:
- Rockville Pike at Cedar Lane
- Connecticut Avenue at Jones Bridge Road
- Rockville Pike at Jones Bridge Road
- Old Georgetown Road at West Cedar Lane
The intersection improvements are part of a series of transportation upgrades geared to address the resulting traffic when 2,500 new employees arrive at the new facility, and visitors nearly double.
The SHA officials will speak at a meeting of the county’s BRAC Implementation Committee at 7:30p.m. Tuesday at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center.
For more information on the improvement projects, check out the county’s BRAC website.
