Suspects Caught Burglarizing Hunt Avenue House

The suspects were caught in the act of burglarizing the house by a resident awakened by the noise.

Two suspects burglarizing a Chevy Chase house Friday morning were caught in the act by a resident awakened by the sound of the burglars, according to an email alert from the Town of Somerset, which received the information from the Montgomery County Police Department.

The burglary took place at about 8:42 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in the 4600 block of Hunt Avenue, Chevy Chase, while the home's owner was gone for a brief time.

The suspects—who wore dark hooded sweatshirts and dark stocking caps, according to the police—may have entered the home through its rear door. Once inside, they removed several items of property and were checking out another room when they were caught, police said.

After that, they fled the house and got away in a vehicle that, police said, may have been a light blue Nissan Quest minivan. The vehicle turned on Stratford Road and left the neighborhood, police said.

They were "caught" and then fled the house? What happened? Did the homeowner confront the burglars and they fled? This sounds like a very disturbing event but this account is vague.

They were caught in the act by a resident of the home (not the homeowner), but then fled.
