Sweeney Todd at The Highwood Theatre

  • Description: The Highwood Theatre presents Sweeny Todd in its tenth anniversary season.

Waverly Street Gallery Holiday Exhibition of 24 Gallery Artists

  • Where: Waverly Street Gallery, 4600 East-West Highway, Bethesda.
  • When: Friday, Dec. 14, through Sunday, Dec. 16, noon to 6 p.m.
  • Description: Twenty-four gallery artists present an array of original artwork for display and purchase.

Cresthaven Craft Fair

  • Description: Cresthaven Elementary School hosts its first holiday craft fair, which includes direct sales vendors, handmade crafts, a bake sale and more.

Holly Trolleyfest

  • Where: National Capital Trolley Museum, 1313 Bonifant Rd., Colesville.
  • When: Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 15, 16, 22 and 23, noon to 5 p.m.
  • Description: The National Capital Trolley Museum hosts a holiday celebration including a Christmas Train Garden, Santa and more.
  • Cost: $5.

Nutcracker Olney Ballet Theater

  • Where: Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., Olney.
  • When: Friday, Dec. 14, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 7:30 p.m.
  • Description: Student dancers from Washington area ballet schools perform with Easton Smith and Haley Henderson Smith of Ballet West.

A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas

  • Where: Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., Olney.
  • When: Through Saturday, Dec. 29. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m.
  • Description: The Olney Theatre Center presents Paul Morella’s solo version of A Christmas Carol.

Miracle on 34th Street

  • Where: Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Rd., Gaithersburg.
  • When: Through Saturday, Dec. 15. Performances start at 8 p.m.
  • Description: The Arts Barn presents Miracle on 34th Street as a live radio play on stage.
  • Cost: $14 to $16.

Festival of Lights

  • Where: 9900 Stoneybrook Dr., Kensington.
  • When: Through Saturday, Jan. 1. Daily, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Description: See more than 600,000 lights, an international crèche exhibit, 18 indoor decorated trees, an outdoor life-sized nativity and live performances nightly.
  • Cost: Free.

Garden of Lights: Winter Holiday Light Display

  • Where: Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave., Silver Spring.
  • When: Sundays through Thursdays, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 5:30 to 10 p.m. Closes at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
  • Description: Sixteenth annual holiday light display includes nightly musical performances by local musicians as well as refreshments and shopping.
  • Cost: $25.

17th Annual Gaithersburg Winter Lights Festival

  • Where: Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg.
  • When: Through Sunday, Dec. 30. Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 6 to 10 p.m.
  • Description: Take a 3.5-mile drive through 350 light displays, 60 of them animated.
  • Cost: Monday through Thursday: $12. Friday through Sunday: $15. Cash only at the gate.
