Tynan Closes, Leaving 2 Storefronts Vacant on Wisconsin Place Plaza
The neighboring Friendship Heights storefronts that used to house Tynan Coffee and Tea and clothing boutique Adolfo Dominguez are both vacant, leaving the south side of the Wisconsin Place plaza looking a little lifeless.
Friendship Heights is down another business: Tynan Coffee and Tea, which anchored the southern arm of the plaza at The Shops at Wisconsin Place.
Now, that part of the plaza seems a little desolate, with all of Tynan's outdoor chairs and tables cleared away, and the tall windows of the corner storefront dark. Your Chevy Chase Patch editor enjoyed sitting at the tables behind the windows, clacking away on the computer while looking up to check on Chevy Chase (and admiring the parade of well-dressed pups passing by).
The coffee, tea and sandwich shop was closed by last Friday. A sign hung in the window thanking Tynan customers for three years of patronage, and reminding them of Tynan's two other DC-area locations: at 1400 Irving St. NW, Washington, DC (near the Columbia Heights Metro stop), and at 1275 1st St. NW, Washington, DC (near the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro stop).
Unfortunately, the former Tynan storefront is not alone in its vacated darkness. Next door is the former storefront for Adolfo Dominguez, a clothing boutique. (One still may purchase Adolfo Dominguez clothing online.) Together, the two vacancies make for a very empty south side of an otherwise pleasant plaza.
Chevy Chase Patch has made inquires with Tynan about what prompted the closure.
What should replace Tynan? What about Adolfo Dominguez? What would you like to see move into the plaza?
And, will you miss Tynan? Where are some other good spots for coffee, tea and working away on a computer in Friendship Heights? Tell us in the comments.

Not surprised about Tynan. High prices, average products, odd hours, and slow service.

I'd vote for either some sort of mid-range price point restaurant as an offset to all of the really high end stuff (Range, Capitol Grille) since the alternative is mostly fast food. Preferably something ethnic, since we already have Clyde's and Chadwicks.
Or a cool bar, either a craft beer place or something cocktail lounge-ish (since we already have a wine bar).

Nice ideas! I like the cocktail bar idea - would be really nice in the summer, in particular. If they could do coffee-type stuff during the day, it would be ideal!

With Frosting right around the corner, how could Tynan compete?

With Giffords closed, how about an old fashioned ice cream and candy store with outdoor seating?

Another great idea! It's a perfect location for an ice cream parlor.
