Van Hollen Re-elected Ranking Member of Budget Committee
Van Hollen was unanimously re-elected Thursday to serve as ranking member of the House Budget Committee by the House Democratic Caucus.
The U.S. House of Representatives' Democratic Caucus unanimously reelected Rep. Christopher Van Hollen (D, District 8) on Thursday to serve as ranking member of the House Budget Committee.
"It has been a privilege to serve as ranking member of the Budget Committee for the last two years, and I am honored that my colleagues have reelected me to continue to serve in the 113th Congress," Van Hollen said after his reelection.
The House Budget Committee is chaired by Rep. Paul Ryan (R, Wisconsin). In the 112th Congress (2011 to 2012), the committee consisted of 22 Republicans and 16 Democrats. As ranking member, Van Hollen is the most senior member of the committee from the minority party (which, in the case of the House of Representatives, is the Democratic Party).
"Over the last two years our House Democratic Caucus has played a leading role in framing the key budget choices facing our country, and the Budget Committee is a central front in this national conversation," Van Hollen said on Thursday. "We will continue to fight to create jobs, protect health and retirement security, expand opportunities, and build a foundation for sustained economic growth by taking a balanced approach to long-term deficit reduction."
With the so-called "fiscal cliff" looming, House Budget Committee members have their work cut out for them. Van Hollen has urged members of both parties to work together to solve the nation's fiscal challenges.
"...I believe we have an opportunity to make genuine progress on accelerating job creation and reducing our long-term deficit if we take a balanced approach and work together," he added on Thursday.

This is a great tragedy for America. Mr. Van Hollen is a profoundly unserious man and is unqualified for this position. He was elected by the Democrat Party Machine in Maryland with no discussion of the issues or debate with his opponent. By his actions he has destroyed jobs, but at risk our health care system, and continues to act against the long term fiscal health of the United States. He is also a continuing threat to our First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech.
He has no intention whatsoever of reducing the deficit or the public debt.
Congratulations Montgomery County voters. You will now get what you voted for, good and hard.

Yes, Rep. Van Hollen was re-elected; that's a shame. IMHO, Van Hollen (like a great many others) seems to make a career of being a congressman. In his time in office, his voting record is unremarkable at best. According to www.govtracks.com:
H.R. 6068: Chesapeake Bay Watershed Fairness Act of 2012
H.R. 4384: Patient Safety and Drug Labeling Improvement Act
H.R. 4010: DISCLOSE 2012 Act
H.R. 3858: To provide that Members of Congress shall not receive a cost of living ...
H.R. 2595: National Neurological Diseases Surveillance System Act of 2011
H.Res. 262: Supporting efforts to raise awareness, improve education, and encourage research and treatment of ...
H.R. 1732: Innovative Technologies Investment Incentive Act of 2011
So my question is, why exactly did we relect him???

Mr Van Hollen, this is a truly a waist of human flesh. A real idiot among many in the Dem party. Does nothing and claims it is everybody else's fault. He fits right into our current president and administration look at the dumb a_ _ they have for a VP. If we were to fire useless people like Van Hollen we could help out our budget and we never miss them. God help us all this next 4 years.
