WJ, Whitman, B-CC Rank In Top Maryland Schools
Bethesda high schools rank in U.S. News and World Report's top schools in the state.
In a recent report, U.S. News and World Report ranked three Bethesda high schools in the top six schools in Maryland.
Walt Whitman ranked second in the state, Walter Johnson came in fifth and Bethesda-Chevy Chase ranked sixth.
Significantly, the top seven public high schools in the state, according to this year's U.S. News and World Report ranking, are all in Montgomery County:
- Winston Churchill High School
- Walt Whitman High School
- Thomas S. Wootton High School
- Poolesville High School
- Walter Johnson High School
- Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
- Richard Montgomery High School
Nationally, Whitman ranked at 84, WJ came in at 118 and B-CC ranked at 151. The report looked at 21,776 public high schools in 49 states and Washington, D.C.

Cudos to our county government and to our state administration. Virginia has two schools in the top 10 nationally, and thanks to our elected officials we no longer have any in the top 10 and are lucky to have any in the top 100. We watch taxes, jobs, money residents and now education leave the state for other states.

There is something wrong with these rankings. How could Churchill rank #1 in the state and not be on the national list?
Also, when looking in DC, Coolidge is ranked #2, while Wilson isn't ranked, yet has better numbers than Coolidge.
Apparently, US News & WR can't do basic math.

I would love to have an intelligent comparative of the numbers and rankings and how, for instance, Churchill and Whitman, flip flop in the various rankings and what pulls them up or down.
