McDonough To Introduce Gun Bills

Del. Pat McDonough is expected to introduce two bills Thursday that he said are dedicated to preventing gun violence.

"If my bills were to pass and fewer people were getting out [of jail] there would be less murders in the city," McDonough said, adding that proponents of more restrictive gun laws "don't want to talk about guns but they don't want to talk about gun violence or the issue of gun violence."

One bill will prohibit early release for any criminal convicted of gun violence and also eliminate plea bargains for those charges.

"There were 195 gun murders in Baltimore City last year," McDonough, a Middle River Republican, said. "Seventy percent were perpetrated by convicted felons on parole."

McDonough said that 40 percent of those gun murders were committed by felons convicted by gun crimes who were on parole at the time.

The second bill would require the creation of a website similar to the sex offender website. That site would provide information about paroled gun offenders including a photo, personal information, crimes committed with guns, parole date, and location of residence, according to McDonough.

Last week, Gov. Martin O'Malley announced that a package of gun control bills would top his legislative priorities for the 2013 General Assembly session.

O'Malley is also pushing for the repeal of the death penalty in the state. McDonough called the combined efforts "a lot of crap."

"The common link here is that they both benefit criminals, they don't benefit law abiding citizens," McDonough said. "This is a criminal-friendly state."

finally..someone who gets it that we need to enforce the laws in place rather than create new ones or punish those who abide by the law...agree 100%

This conversation will go nowhere since it seems you know all and I know nothing. As for Westboro..they are all insane and maybe you should learn what truly being insane mean and not seeing both sides. My point is instead of creating new laws..enforce laws that are in place and not create new ones that will never be enforced like the current ones. i am done so if you feel the need to comment yet again..go right ahead..it's your freedom of speech

The first bill by McD isn't too bad except for the no plea bargin. I suspect without pleas we'd see a much lower conviction rate in Baltimore City. I say keep the pleas but somehow make the guilty of certain violent crimes serve longer sentences.

The second bill doesn't make much sense. If the guys (mostly) on the website are criminals, why would they care if they are on a website?

This is another story like the NRA opening the discussion on armed guards in schools. The rabid holophobes went apoplectic and whiny and showed their irrational hate for millions of law abiding Americans.
Then when they are educated to the fact many schools already have armed guards and many more are working to do so, they continue to be irrational.

Now McDonough calls for the same things the Mayors Against Gun Violence have called for and they go after McDonough and not the Mayors or Blake.

Irrational hatred and partisanship without education of the issues.

No one else IN the city, Mayor downwards cares about the cities black on black murders with illegal handguns. So your answer is: to continue to ignore black on black record number murders in our cities; but when its a bunch of white school kids, moviegoers, or college kids then it is important to address the gun issue?

Its funny how politics work: Baltimore has had a record number of murders in the city for a decade (recently the numbers have gone down some). Baltimore City has lead the state 5 fold in the total number of murders by guns (~90% gang on gang, illegally owned killings). Politicians do nothing!
A mass shooting a movie theater by a mentally insane individual followed by another mentally ill person in Connecticut; NOW, Democrats scream at restricting gun ownership from ALL the legal, responsible, upstanding, crime free citizens (~100 million of us).
SO: I guess when black kids (gangbangers) kill black kids (gangbangers) at record numbers in Baltimore, DC, Chicago, Philly, Oakland and on with illegal handguns the past decade means nothing to the President, Governor, Mayor and Democratic politicians across the nation. Who is really the problem here: Democrats who have ignored black or black gang murders (w/ illegal gun ownership) for decades; NOW they use mass tragedies to shove personal agendas to the forefront which vilify, target and alienate legal, responsible citizens of this country!

@ jag. The major issue is black on black killings with illegal guns. That is the problem with the nation. YES, Democrats avoid the topic like a plague, so I, among others agree that they don't care about all the black on black murders the past 20 years. Gun laws? I am very aware and they have focused on limiting LEGAL gun owners from owning a gun, NOT putting away the gangbangers with illegal guns for decades in prisons. How can you not see this issue?
ITS not legal gun owners! PUT away the thugs that commit 90% of the gun murders in this nation with Illegal guns! We need "jury of their peers" to stop the "Jesus will save" talks and to prosecute these criminals and put them away for decades in jail (no more handouts and free passes OR plea bargains).
Hum: We don't plea bargain with terrorists. Why plea bargain or "save" proven inner city terrorists, which kill more people per year in the US than the Taliban kills in the world in a year?

MY POINT IS: Those who fight for entitlements are the very ones that will be destroyed by their goals. Entitled people always ask for more, more, more, for their failures to succeed or from their failures to be able to merge into a society a positive contributor. When THOSE (democrats) get their entitlements (as they are presently) via the pocketbook of responsible, successful citizens; it will all fail the whole system in time. USSR was the great experiment which proved the mass failures of such beliefs. Ask a former USSR blocked individual living today happy in the US about their thoughts on socialism.
By constantly fighting for entitlements from the government (everyone owes you and everyone is a victim) and ignoring the reality that YOU are responsible for yourself (1st), family (2nd) and on...
Point being. Guns ARE legal and it is protected by the second amendment. You wish to shoot that right down, BUT support the freedom of speech and such to no end? Tell me who is acting entitled?
I believe NO laws are the best laws and more freedoms are the best freedoms.

The facts are simple. The longer you keep repeat offenders in jail the lower the crime rates go.

http://www.fox19.com/Global/story.asp?s=1309148&clienttype=printable

Repeat offenders are one the of the most serious issues facing the criminal justice system.

The majority of homicides in the city were committed by repeat offenders.

82 Year-Old Missouri Man Shoots Violent Intruder – Lives to Talk About It (Video)
"Police say an 82-year-old Ellsinore man shot a man who reportedly broke into his home Friday night.

It happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. on North Herren Street.

According to Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens, Charles L. White, 30, of Ellsinore, broke into the residence and assaulted the 82-year-old. White reported fled after being shot.

After the sheriff's office obtained a search warrant, White was found at a home in Ellsinore.

The 82-year-old homeowner was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital and then by air ambulance to a St. Louis hospital with head injuries.

White was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital and treated for a gunshot wound to the arm.

An arrest warrant was issued for White for assault first degree and burglary first degree. He was being held in the Butler County Jail under $500,000 bond or cash surety."

It happens every day in America. Ans some would rather the old man be a dead victim.

"Fontana School PD Purchases 14 AR-15 Assault Weapons To Protect Students"

"FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — The Fontana Unified School District Police Department purchased 14 AR-15 assault weapons to protect students in response to recent shootings across the country, but some school leaders and citizens think it’s a step in the wrong direction.

FUSD Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks approved the acquisition of the rifles, which are being stored on campuses in locked safes for responding police officers in the event of an attack.

Fontana Police Chief Rodney Jones and Mayor Acquanetta Warren supported Olsen-Binks’ decision.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to have that, but it’s the best message we can send to anybody that thinks to harm our children,” said Jones. “The message we’re sending is…not here, not now, we’re prepared for you. And if you seek to harm our children, we will neutralize that threat and you will most likely be killed.”

Warren said, “Everyone wants children safe. At this time, we as a community, we have to come together and find other ways. But in the interim, our police officers need to be equipped.”"
