MoverMoms Danced for Dollars at a Zumba Fiesta

The Bethesda-based non-profit MoverMoms group held a fundraiser on Saturday, July 21, to benefit a school in El Salvador where the group volunteers. About 25 people joined in at a Zumba Fiesta, held at Crunch Fitness in Friendship Heights, and danced to Latin tunes at a high-energy class taught by instructor Tanya Nuchols.

"It was a great workout, for a great cause," MoverMoms Executive Director Rebecca Kahlenberg said.

Each participant paid $25, all of which will benefit the Amun Shea School in El Salvador where MoverMoms does volunteer work. The group is heading there again in August, which will be their third trip to this school in the northeastern corner of the Central American country.

Crunch Fitness in Chevy Chase, DC, generously donated the dance studio as well as a variety of raffle prizes, and food sponsors Georgetown Cupcake and Whole Foods Market Bethesda both provided delicious snacks for the dancers. TACA Airlines provided a free round-trip ticket that was raffled off.

"MoverMoms is very grateful to these sponsors for supporting the work that we do," Kahlenberg said. Overall, the event and raffle raised nearly $2,500. Kahlenberg hopes that this will become an annual event. "It's hard to think of a more fun way to raise funds."
