The Bethesda Painting Awards is downtown Bethesda's annual juried art competition that exclusively honors painters from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. $14,000 in prize monies are awarded to the top four painters annually. Best in show receives $10,000. The 2013 Jury consists of Tim Doud, Associate Professor of Art at American University, Duane Keiser, acclaimed painter, and Christine Neill, Professor of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art. The Jurors will select up to nine finalists who will be invited to display their work in a group exhibition at Gallery B in downtown Bethesda in June 2013. More About Bethesda Urban Partnership
The Bethesda Urban Partnership contracts with Montgomery County to conduct marketing and events as well as maintenance for downtown Bethesda. The group also operates the Bethesda Circulator, a free shuttle that provides transportation in the downtown. Popular street festivals such as Taste of Bethesda and Imagination Bethesda are all coordinated by the urban partnership, which was founded in 1994. BUP also created Bethesda Transportation Solutions, which promotes alternative transportation in the downtown, and the Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District.
