Why is James Mangini running 1,000 miles in 30 days?
Inspired by his father’s battle to live a productive life despite the debilitating illness, James Mangini, a former Army sergeant, is running 1,000-miles from his home near Charleston, S.C. to New York City to raise money for Parkinson’s research. James is running about 35 miles a day all in an effort to call attention to the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease.
The disease is an unfortunate part of the Mangini family – James’ father, great grandfather, distant cousin …. – in total 7 relatives have Parkinson’s disease. James is also starting to show early signs of the disease.
AND HE’S DOING IT IN JUST 30 DAYS, OR ABOUT 35 MILES PER DAY!
He started his run Monday, May 7 and will pass through Chevy Chase on Tuesday, May 29 at AT&T’s Chevy Chase store (5301 Wisconsin Avenue NW) at approx 1 p.m.
Please join us at our Chevy Chase store to cheer James on as he enters Chevy Chase! We would also appreciate it if you could share this information with your members – it would be great to get a crowd together to support James as he runs into our nation’s capital.
James is posting photos, video and updates from his smartphone as he runs (AT&T is supporting James with data service as he makes his journey so people can follow him as he runs.)
