JUSTICE CINEMA: THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS
The Faith In Action Group of BUCC will present
another thought provoking film on Friday, February 8th at 7:30 PM in the
Parlor. That evening the film, actually a 78 minute made for public
television documentary, will be "The Power of Forgiveness".
The film shows the incredible acts of forgiveness that some groups have shown toward others who have hurt them. This includes feature stories on the Amish and the killing of some of their children in a Pennsylvania Elementary School, the 9/11 tragedy, and peace-building in
Northern Ireland, along with interviews with renowned Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, best-selling authors Thomas Moore and
Marianne Williamson and others. The film also explores the role forgiveness holds in various faiths traditions. It provides an honest look at the intensity of anger and grief that human nature is heir to. We see in the film that there are transgressions people find themselves unwilling or unable to forgive. Through character-driven stories the film shows the role forgiveness can play in alleviating anger and grief and the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that come with it. (from Netflix description)
As always the showing is free and some sort of
refreshments are usually included. It is hoped that the refreshments will energize the discussion that follows the showing. Please feel free to invite friends to come with you. The recent tragedy in Connecticut makes this a particularly topical presentation.
