The Puppet Co.’s annual holiday treat, The Nutcracker, features marionettes and larger-than-life costume characters, culminating in a delightful and thoroughly entertaining production for the entire family. All the favorite Tchaikovsky tunes are there, accompanying Clara and Fritz as they play with their toys given to them from Godfather; as the Nutcracker fights off the Mouse King; and as Clara and the Nutcracker venture to the Land of the Sugarplum Fairy to joyfully watch a dancing donkey, a glittering dragon and of course, waltzing flowers! Show runs Nov. 25 – Dec. 31, 2011. Show times: Thursdays & Fridays at 10 & 11:30 a.m.; Saturdays & Sundays at 11:30 a.m. & 1 p.m. EXCEPTIONS: Nov. 25 and Dec. 26 – 31, performances @ 11:30 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. NO Performances Dec. 24 & 25. More About Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park
Inspired by Spanish mission architecture, the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park is equipped with 7,500 square feet of dance floor. This Mediterranean-style Art Deco building was restored in 1933 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition, the ballroom is utilized as a venue for wedding receptions, large corporate gatherings, bar/bat mitzvahs, private dance parties and other events. The Ballroom is available to rent year-round, but peak rental times are from April through June and September through October because because the venue is neither heated nor air conditioned.
