Oral, head, and neck cancers are the sixth most common form of cancer in the United States, with 40,000 cases diagnosed annually. Smokers and tobacco users are at highest risk for these cancers, but it’s a growing concern for non-smokers as well.
Johns Hopkins Head and Neck Cancer Center physicians are providing FREE head and neck cancer screenings on Tuesday, October 29 from 3-5 pm at the Suburban Outpatient Medical Center, 6420 Rockledge Drive, Suite 1200, Bethesda.
Are you at risk? Smokers are six times more likely than non-smokers to develop oral cancer. Those who chew tobacco increase the risk of cancers of their cheek, gums, and inner surfaces of the lip by 50 percent. People who drink three or more alcoholic beverages a day have twice the risk of head and neck cancers as those who never drink. And sexually transmitted HPV (human papillomavirus) is also a growing factor as a cause of certain oral cancers.
