Maryland Court of Special Appeals Issues Opinion on Suburban Hospital Campus Enhancement Project

In their opinion dated September 10, 2013, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals affirmed the judgment of the Montgomery County Circuit Court, which upheld the 2010 decision of the Montgomery County Board of Appeals granting a special exception modification for Suburban Hospital’s campus enhancement project.

“This is a very important decision for our patients and community,” said David C. Silver, chairman of the Suburban Hospital Board of Trustees.  “Suburban’s Board is very proud of the quality of care the hospital provides, and the campus enhancement project is critical to the hospital’s ability to continue to provide state-of-the-art health care to our community.”

In July 2011, the Montgomery County Council voted to approve the abandonment of one block of Lincoln Street in Bethesda, a critical component of the project that allows the hospital’s campus to be consolidated and the expansion accommodated.  In April of this year, the Montgomery County Planning Board approved the subdivision and site plans to implement the project.

The expansion plans include more private patient rooms, larger operating rooms that will be located on the same floor as the Emergency/Trauma Center, additional parking, better traffic and pedestrian circulation, and needed physician office space.
