Tiger Cubs Ace Swim Test

An important test for two of the newest—and youngest—residents of the Smithsonian's National Zoo.

By Christina Gatte, CNS TV

The Smithsonian National Zoological Park's twin Sumatran tiger cubs—male Bandar and female Sukacita, born Aug. 5, 2013—took their swim test on Wednesday—and passed with flying colors. To be able to play in the tigers' outdoor exhibit, which has a moat, they needed to show zookeepers that they can swim.

"Starting Monday, Nov. 18, keepers will decide on a day-to-day basis whether Sukacita and Bandar will spend time in the yard and for how long they will be out. This decision will be based on weather and how the cubs adjust to being outdoors. The zoo will continue to share the latest updates and photos onFacebook and Twitter," the zoo reported on its web page about the tigers.
