AT&T National Changes Name, May Lose Bethesda Venue

Members tired of the hassle.

The AT&T National golf tournament will no longer be the AT&T National golf tournament.

The PGA Tour announced has announced that Detroit-based Quicken Loans will now sponsor the event, which has been held at Bethesda's Congressional Country Club five of the last seven years. This year could be its last.

The club's board of directors, under fire for those complaining about lost time on the course and too much time in traffic jams, has come up with these options: To host the Quicken Loans National in 2016, 2018, and 2020, or ditch the tournament all together.

"It's a membership that's run by its members. It comes down to the simple equation of, if it's disturbing to them, they're not going to have it," Congressional County Club member Dr. William Amoroso told ABC 7.

Referendum votes for all 1800 Congressional members are due March 31, with a decision to be announced in the days following. The 2014 Quicken Loans National will be held Monday, June 23 through Sunday, June 29 at Congressional Country Club.
