Bethesda Ranked Richest Small City in America

The Capitol Polo Club in Montgomery County is one of the amenities that helped Bethesda earn the ranking of richest small city in America. Do you agree?

Easy access to a polo field, private jets and luxury clothing shops: Does that say Bethesda to you?

Movoto, the real estate research blog, has published a ranking of the richest small cities in America and it lists Bethesda as the richest of them all. Bethesda ranked ahead of No. 2 Palo Alto, CA, the hub of Silicon Valley wealth.

The website looked at the 950 places with populations between 30,000 and 80,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Cities were ranked by per capita numbers of fine dining restaurants, fine clothing and jewelry stores, luxury car dealerships, country clubs, and other amenities.

Here's how the blog describes the top 10 cities:

“They might be tiny, but these places make up for it with big bank accounts, fast cars, and more luxurious amenities than you can shake a 24 karat gold stick at.

“Bethesda ranked in either the top 10 (or even top five) for everything. It was first in distance to a polo field (eight miles), second in distance to private jet facilities (six miles), and third in terms of really expensive clothing retailers per capita,” the blog says.
