Blossom Watch: March 21

Patch spotlights a tree's transformation in the Kenwood neighborhood.

For years, Kenwood in Chevy Chase has been a destination for local cherry tree watchers away from the hustle and heat of the Tidal Basin.

The neighborhood's 1,200 Yoshino cherry trees are the same kind that draw tourists each year to Washington, D.C., and each spring, the delicate pink blossoms frame the quiet subdivision's homes and streets.

Patch is stopping by each day this week to snap photos of the same cherry tree. By the end of blooming season, we'll have a time lapse photo gallery.

Wednesday, Kenwood was in its full glory, boasting the blossoms at peak bloom. Our tree still has a few buds left to pop before it catches up with its neighbors, though.

You can compare the tree's bloom today with our pre-peak photos from Monday and Tuesday.
