County's Events for Seniors Includes Employment Seminar, Talent Show, Driving Class

Montgomery County senior citizens can take part in a talent show, employment seminar, driving class and other activities this month.

Montgomery County has events ranging from a talent show to employment seminar to a refresher driving class planned for senior citizens for the rest of May.

Workshop for Older Americans: Stay Safe, Healthy and Connected

The event is free and open to the public. The closest Metro stops to the FCC's headquarters are Smithsonian and L'Enfant Plaza. AARP Smart Driver Course

Participants will have an opportunity to tune up driving skills, learn safe driving strategies and update knowledge of the rules of the road. The instructor will provide information about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust driving to allow for these changes. After completing the class, students will receive a certificate. Some insurance companies operating in Maryland consider drivers who take the course qualified for reduced or discounted premiums.

Class registration is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Fees will be collected at the class. AARP members should bring their membership card and each student should bring a check payable to AARP and a pen to class. 

Diabetes And Visual Impairment: Meeting Challenges and Finding Solutions
The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland, Sligo Creek Chapter, in collaboration with the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services, is sponsoring a one-day, hands-on seminar for diabetics with visual impairments, their family members, and service providers.
