Veteran’s Day Event and Book Drive to Benefit Local Military Families

Chevy Chase Library will host a Veteran's Day Program of Awareness and Support on November 5th from 1:30 - 3:45 p.m.The program will feature a panel discussion, among multi-generational veterans moderated by Sydney Freedberg.  Mr. Freedberg worked for the National Journal from 1997 to 2010 and is the founder of Learning from Veterans: National Security Insights from Afghanistan and Iraq, a project to inform policy-making and public debate by injecting the experiences and insights of US military veterans of Afghanistan in Iraq.The program will also kick off a book drive to support Blue Star Families and its Books for Kids Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.Blue Star Families is a non-partisan, non-profit organization, created by real military families.  They are committed to support one another through the unique challenges of military service and asking the larger civilian population to help as well, connecting military families regardless of rank, branch of service or physical location, and empowering military family members to create the best personal and family life possible for themselves.The book drive will run from November 5th through December 15th.  New children's books can be dropped off in collection boxes at Chevy Chase Library located at 8005 Connecticut Ave. Chevy Chase, MD 20815 USA
