Moms In Training -- a new division of the Team In Training program focused on busy moms -- has launched to prepare runners for the Capitol Hill Classic on May 18.

The eight-week coach-led training program will meet on Saturday mornings starting March 22 in Chevy Chase, Washington, D.C.’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Alexandria and Falls Church, VA, says a news release from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“The Capitol Hill Classic has a 35-year tradition of partnering with the community to support the neighborhood in which we run,” said Jason Levine, event race director. “One-hundred percent of our race proceeds benefit the Capitol Hill Cluster School, a unique D.C. Public School. These dollars help provide better tools and resources for the learning and growth of their more than 1,000 students. Teaming up with LLS’s Moms In Training program, geared toward the mothers of these students, is a natural fit for us.”

Participants in Moms In Training may bring their children along and run with strollers, or enjoy a moms morning out during their Saturday trainings. Similar to its parent program, participants will receive certified training, TNT gear, and entry into the Capitol Hill Classic, while they raise money for LLS’s mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

“As a mother of two children under the age of six, I am excited to launch this program in the Washington, D.C. market,” said Beth Gorman, executive director of LLS. “LLS is funding critical research in the world of pediatric blood cancers, and with the funds raised by our area moms, we be able to continue to move the needle toward 100 percent survival rates in childhood leukemias and lymphomas.”
