Moms Talk: Now What?

What do you do with yourself while the kids are in school?

Welcome back to Mom's Talk! Each week, our Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions.

Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community are all welcome to weigh in and use the discussion forum as a resource. Each week, we'll pose a question and solicit feedback on a wide array of issues, but you should feel free to suggest questions you'd like to see discussed as well.

This week, our discussion turns to what to do while your kids are in school?  Back before I had a kid in school, I thought "there is so much free time" while the kids are in school.  What would I do with all of my time?

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., my kindergartener is in school.  So, yeah, it seems like a lot of time.  Until you're living it.  And all of the sudden, you get the kid on the bus and then....it's THREE!  What happened in all of my free time?  I cleaned up kids' rooms, I cleaned up the kitchen, I prepped dinner, I ran an errand and then I hurried back to meet the bus.

What do you do during your "down time" that the kids are in school?  Have you found that the kids' school schedule actually leads to MORE scheduling constraints and less freedom?  Do you find that you're actually busier during the school year because you supposedly have more time to do things, so you over-commit, when in reality, it's not much time at all?  Tell me about what you do to manage your time to be as productive as possible while the kids are in school.
